Hi! My name is Loki. I’m an 8-year-old Cavachon, which means I’m a mix of a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Bichon Frise. I have a sweet and gentle temperament, and I absolutely adore cuddles. My favourite thing to do is nap, especially on someone’s lap if they stay still long enough!
I live with Mrs. Hughes and her family, which includes another dog and some cats. That means I’m used to lots of noise, playtime, and being around other animals. Sometimes, though, loud noises can scare me, and when that happens, I’ll go find my bed or a cozy, safe spot to settle down.
I’ll be spending some time in classrooms, and I’m really good at listening to readers or just snoozing on beanbags (I love a good beanbag!). You’ll often see me around school with Mrs. Hughes, who is your Assistant Headteacher.
Benefits of a school therapy dog
Did you know that having a therapy dog like me in school can make a big difference for everyone? Research has shown that dogs in schools bring loads of benefits—not just joy and cuddles (though I’m great at those!) but also real improvements for the whole school community. Let me explain:
Social benefits: I can help boost self-esteem and give you a fun topic to talk about with your friends. Plus, spending time with me can encourage responsibility, promote well-being, and help you focus on positive interactions with others.
Cognitive benefits: Did you know that dogs like me can actually help stimulate your memory and problem-solving skills? Pretty smart, huh?
Emotional and mental health benefits: I’m here to help you feel calm and happy. Hanging out with me can lift your mood, improve your confidence, and even teach you compassion and respect for living things. I’m also pretty great at helping ease anxiety.
Physical benefits: Whether it’s giving me a pat or taking me for a little walk, spending time with me is good for your body too. It can motivate you to move, stimulate your senses, and even help lower your blood pressure or make pain feel less intense.
Environment: My presence helps create a warm, family-like atmosphere at school. Lots of students love interacting with me, and the good vibes often stick around long after the school day is done!
So, you see, I’m not just here for naps and beanbags. I’m here to help make school a happier and healthier place for everyone!
